Cable Ties That Biodegrade

We also produce rapstrap i-Ties using a special biodegradable polyester. These ties are primarily intended for outdoor applications where inadvertent loss into the environment may occur.

Currently available in 270mm lengths, our bioplastic rapstraps are based on our standard i-Tie design, which means each strap can provide several ties (depending on size) and helps to reduce waste; Biodegradable i-Ties are also fully releasable and reusable if required.

Before and After: 1 year at ambient temperature in top soil.

Before and After: 1 year at ambient temperature in commercial compost.

Under favourable conditions, our starch-polyester compound can be substantially decomposed in as little as 12 months. Nutrient rich environments are preferred, but even in common top soil (generally a less favourable medium) these ties can still degrade significantly in just a year.

Although biodegradation is possible at ambient temperatures, it can be considerably faster in warmer environments such as hot compost. Please note that because the time required for full biodegradation (and bioassimilation) depends on local conditions, end users are always advised to test biodegradable products in their intended disposal environments wherever possible.
